Twilight News Dec 7 Breaking!!! Hardwicke OUT

Hardwicke Not Hired On 'Twilight' Sequel; Summit Looking For 'New Moon' Director

It's just been reported that director Catherine Hardwicke will NOT be directing 'New Moon'. Here's the story with link:

Summit Entertainment Co-Chairman/CEO Rob Friedman just phoned me to add: "Catherine and Summit have agreed to part ways on the sequel because our visions are different." The start-up studio's hastily prepared statement (below) notes: "Summit’s targeted end of 2009 or early 2010 release of the film, New Moon, does not work with Ms. Hardwicke’s required prep time to bring her vision of the film to the big screen." Twilight Christmas Cards and Holiday Greeting Cards

You'd think Twilight and Christmas would be a natural marriage. They each have a supernatural lead character (Santa, Edward Cullen). They each take place in a small, dark northern town (North Pole, Forks). And there's a romanticism about each of them. But I've only been able to find a few Twilight-themed Christmas cards on the web. If you know of others, let me know!

Twilight News for December 1

New Moon Auditions "New Moon", Summit Entertainment's sequel to the highly successful feature film "Twilight", is now currently in pre-production and casting directors are accepting photos and resumes from talent. Filming begins in March, 2009. Open casting calls will be posted here also, as soon as dates and locations are released. Read here about how to audition!

What's Next For 'Twilight' Star Robert Pattinson? When he was cast in "Twilight," few people outside of die-hard "Harry Potter" fans had heard of him. As of last week, media outlets like this one, this one and a half-dozen others were still misspelling his name. But after a $70.55 million opening weekend, the stars of "Twilight" are the new kings of Hollywood.

And no actor is dazzling the studios quite like freshly minted heartthrob Robert Pattinson. But now that "Twilight" has exploded on to the scene, the time has come for RPattz to answer what might be the most significant question of his career: Where does he go from here? Read about it here!

Casting 'The Volturi' in 'New Moon,' the 'Twilight' sequel Now that we know the sequel to box-office smash Twilight is a go, it's time to consider casting some of the most nefarious -- and frightening -- characters of the entire series: The Volturi. Here are my picks for a few of the baddie bloodsuckers who'll be introduced in New Moon: Read about it here!

"Twilight" tourists flock to tiny Forks, Wash.
FORKS, Wash. -- Not even the most avid civic booster would mistake "Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer's description of Forks as the stuff of tourism dreams.
A typical passage from Meyer's mega-best-seller goes like this: "Thick fog was all I could see out my window in the morning, and I could feel the claustrophobia creeping up on me. You could never see the sky here; it was like a cage." Read more...

Twilight News for Nov 24

Twilight Wins the Weekend Box!
'Twilight' leaves its box-office mark A wildly popular vampire love story took a big bite out of the box office, helping deliver a banner weekend for the industry as Hollywood brushed off one of the most tumultuous weeks ever on Wall Street.

"Twilight," the film that drew legions of fans of Stephenie Meyer's vampire book series, more than delivered on the advance hype by generating an estimated $70.5 million in North American box-office receipts during its opening weekend. The movie rang up the fourth-highest November opening weekend of all time. Read more...

'Twilight' sequel 'New Moon' gets the greenlight from Summit Good news "Twilight" fans — "New Moon" is officially on the way.

After news broke that the film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's vampire romance made a big $35.7 million in its first day of release — the second biggest opening day gross outside of summer after "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" — Summit greenlighted production on the sequel "New Moon." Footage from the Red Carpet Premiere of Twilight!

Check out this footage from the red carpet at the Premiere of Twilight on Nov 17!!

'True Blood' vs. 'Twilight': Who's the Better Vampire Boyfriend? While sitting through an early screening of Twilight yesterday, I came to a not-so-stunning realization: teen girls are obsessed with vampires. The love story between Edward Cullen and Bella Swan had many young ladies in the audience squealing with delight, which is something I haven't experienced since I donned a disguise and crept into a showing of High School Musical 3. If you walk by a theater this weekend, there's a good chance you'll hear shrieks of ecstasy as Twilight melts the hearts of girls around the country. Read more...

Women are falling for Twilight's hunky vampire Angela Vicencio is happily married, but there’s another man.

He’s younger and hotter than her husband and his chiseled porcelain skin and chivalrous old-world manners make her heart race.

He’s also a vampire.

He’s Edward Cullen, the teenage protagonist of The Twilight saga, the four-book literary sensation that has sold more than 17 million copies worldwide.

Vicencio is among the throngs of adult women who’ve fallen hard for Twilight, and, along with their teen — mostly female — cohorts, are expected to fill theaters and send box-office receipts soaring when the film version debuts today. Read more...
Movie review: Dreamy undead in 'Twilight' Twilight: Romantic horror drama. Starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Billy Burke. Directed by Catherine Hardwicke. (PG-13. 122 minutes. At Bay Area theaters. To see complete movie listings and show times, and to buy tickets for select theaters, go to sfgate.com/movies.)
"Twilight" will probably be a huge disappointment to those expecting a horror film, a lot of good special effects, a kinky, sexual vampire picture or any combination of the above. More time during this movie is spent talking about going to the prom than drinking human blood. The climactic battle takes place in a ballet studio. Read more...

Casting for vampire movie 'Twilight' may disappoint book purists
As the credits came up at a recent screening of "Twilight," I heard a deep sigh to my right. It was my 15-year-old date, Libby. "I had such high expectations," she mumbled.

And that's a problem director Catherine Hardwicke is likely to encounter with girls all over America (and beyond): Stephenie Meyer's young adult novel is so beloved, it's much easier to see what went wrong with Hardwicke's adaptation than what she got right. Read more...

Twilight Talk for November 19

Shrieking masses descend on L.A. for the 'Twilight' premiere There were hundreds of people lining the Los Angeles streets screaming and chanting. There were homemade signs, punny slogans, and custom T-shirts. Attendees declared whose team they were on. There were moms and daughters, men and women, couples and singles. There were even a few people so overcome by emotion that tears were shed. They stood for hours, some for days, to make sure their opinions were seen and heard despite the harsh, ashy air quality caused by the numerous nearby wildfires. Robert Pattinson: Single & looking for love He may have his arm around Kristen Stewart at every “Twilight” premiere event, and has been linked to a host of hot ladies over recent months, but Robert Pattinson is unattached, according to a new interview. Read more...

'Twilight' should please thirsty fans You can almost feel the anticipation in the air for “Twilight.” Fans have devoured the novels by Stephenie Meyer with a blood lust. They also have burned up the Internet with good and bad comments.

Now the speculation can end. The fans can see what director Catherine Hardwicke has done to their beloved book.

Stop worrying. Hardwicke’s is a very loyal big-screen version of the lengthy book. A few minor scenes have been deleted. A couple of sequences got condensed. But overall, the film unfolds the same way the pages turn.

That’s not necessarily a great thing. More on that later. Read more...

'Twilight' Countdown: Stephenie Meyer talks about the film's twist ending 3 days left…

When I spoke to “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer, she seemed in much better spirits than she had been in following the “Breaking Dawn” backlash and subsequent leaking of “Midnight Sun” online. (For the record, she says she won’t resume writing the book, her planned retelling of “Twilight” from Edward’s point of view, until the noise around it has died down. “I have to feel like I’m alone with it again,” she said.) Meyer Got Twilight Rules in Writing
As fans know, the vampires of Twilight have a different set of rules from the standard lore. When author Stephenie Meyer first sold the movie rights, she quickly found that Hollywood wasn't respecting the world she had created. "I actually sold the rights to a different company [first]," Meyer told ReelzChannel at this weekend's Twilight junket.
"I got a look at the script and, you know, objectively [it was] probably a decent vampire movie. [But] it had nothing at all to do with Twilight. That was kind of a horrifying experience. I had realized that they could do it wrong and it could go badly, but that they would do something that had nothing to do at all with the story was really shocking to me." Read more...

Asked what he misses most about his pre-fame life, Rob said he already misses getting to play his music live: "I used to love playing live at open mic nights. It'd be cathartic. I mean it was really key for me," he explained. Now that a few of his performances have been captured on YouTube, however, he's a lot less keen to take the stage. In fact, he's pretty sad about it. "I think, 'Wow, I just lost a huge chunk of my life.' " Read more...

Vampire Edward Cullen Transforms Into Artist Salvador Dali Okay. I'm not sure if I can recover from seeing photos of everyone's favorite film vampire Edward Cullen (sigh) as painter Salvador Dali. The actor, Rob Pattinson, wears a little skinny mustache for which the surrealist artist was so famous for having. I did not need to see any of those photos. They may have just ruined the movie version of Edward for me!

Here's the deal: After the actor, formerly Cedric Diggory of Harry Potter fame, finished working on the movie version of Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight," he filmed a movie called "Little Ashes" about Dali's life and paintings. "Little Ashes" will be released in 2009.

Check out the photos from the movie if you dare. (Warning: You might not recover your ability to let Pattinson be Edward Cullen after seeing them.) Read this...

Forks, Washington becomes a mecca for devout Twilight pilgrims Excerpt:
"On her website, Meyer explained her choice of Forks:

For my setting, I knew I needed someplace ridiculously rainy. I turned to Google, as I do for all my research needs, and looked for the place with the most rainfall in the U.S. This turned out to be the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. I pulled up maps of the area and studied them, looking for something small, out of the way, surrounded by forest... And there, right where I wanted it to be, was a tiny town called "Forks." It couldn't have been more perfect if I had named it myself. I did a Google image search on the area, and if the name hadn't sold me, the gorgeous photographs would have done the trick. Blood lust: Vampire tales chilled, thrilled us for more than 80 years There’s something about a vampire story that just grabs you by the throat and sucks you right in.

Maybe it’s the idea of being a vampire — sleeping all day and going out every night (no more grocery shopping!). Never having to worry about wrinkles or middle-age spread or that inconvenient dying thing (barring the unlikely event of a stake through the heart or exposure to sunlight).

Or maybe it’s the allure of being with a vampire, like Bella Swan and the impossibly hunky Edward Cullen in Stephenie Meyer’s wildly popular Twilight series (hang on, kids — the movie’s less than a month away). Really, who could say no to a beautiful bad boy who lives forever and never loses his hair? . . Read more...

Gratuitous image from Big Hitter.

E Online has a storyn about Robert Pattinson being mobbed at an airport in Mexico. There's a Youtube link, but it doesn't work! But there are plenty of other (amatuer, mostly) vids you can look at. Here's a really short one:

'Twilight' countdown: Look like Bella and Edward on Halloween:
Twenty-eight days to go...

Perhaps more important, there are only eight days until Halloween. So today's offering is a "Twilight" costume guide. Because, let's face it, it's not easy to dress up as "Twilight" characters (at least in ways non-fans will understand.) Bella's a pretty normal if clumsy girl with sometimes frizzy brown hair. She wears jackets most of the time in cold, overcast Forks. Edward's a vampire doing his best not to look like, well, a vampire.

So how best to celebrate in costume? Work the details...Read the rest here...

'Twilight' star Pattinson shines in film, 'How to Be'
After a long day at the Austin Film Festival, I was ready to sit down, relax and enjoy a full-length feature film. Unfortunately, not all my wishes were fulfilled. I did enjoy "How to Be," but it was far from a relaxing experience.

Since the movie theater was 15 minutes away from downtown Austin, I decided to leave early to make sure I found the place. To my surprise, I pulled up to the theater and found two lines wrapping around the building.

After getting in line, I found out director and writer Oliver Irving and actor Robert Pattinson would be at the screening of the film to hold a question and answer session after the movie. After shamelessly eavesdropping on several conversations, I discovered the attraction of the film; Pattinson plays Edward Cullen in "Twilight." With a few exceptions, everyone in line was eager to meet the actor. Read more here..

'Twilight' Soundtrack Now Online? It's perhaps the most sought-after movie soundtrack of the year, and now it's kinda sorta available online for you to throw on in the background while you dream of sexy vampire boyfriends and ... dark stuff! Yup, looks like most of the upcoming Twilight soundtrack has hit YouTube, and it features songs from angsty bands like Linkin Park, Collective Soul, The Black Ghosts and -- wait for it -- the super misunderstood hottie Robert Pattinson himself on a tune called Never Think. "Twilight" Series Holds 5 Entries In Amazon Top 10 This WeekThere was not much of a shake-up this week on the Amazon Best Seller List as nearly all of last week's entries are holding down their places in the Top 10. Last week's #1, "The Shack" by William P. Young continues to top the chart. The Christian fiction book, about a man who has conversations with God after the death of his 6-year-old daughter, continues its streak as a best-selling, word-of-mouth success.

The rest of the list practically belongs to the Twilight series. The romantic vampire saga from author Stephenie Meyer has 5 entries on the Top 10 list. Breaking Dawn, the latest book in the series, is #2 this week, while Twilight, Book 1 in the series, is at #3. Eclipse, Book 3, and New Moon, Book 2 are at #7 and #8 respectively. The latest addition to the best-selling list, "Twilight: The Complete Illustrated Movie Companion" by Mark Cotta Vaz, features full-color photos, behind-the-scenes details, storyboards and more from the upcoming film adaptation. The book won't be released until October 28th but it comes in at #10 this week in pre-orders. Read more...
