Twilight News for Nov 24

Twilight Wins the Weekend Box!
'Twilight' leaves its box-office mark A wildly popular vampire love story took a big bite out of the box office, helping deliver a banner weekend for the industry as Hollywood brushed off one of the most tumultuous weeks ever on Wall Street.

"Twilight," the film that drew legions of fans of Stephenie Meyer's vampire book series, more than delivered on the advance hype by generating an estimated $70.5 million in North American box-office receipts during its opening weekend. The movie rang up the fourth-highest November opening weekend of all time. Read more...

Footage from the Red Carpet Premiere of Twilight!

Check out this footage from the red carpet at the Premiere of Twilight on Nov 17!!

'True Blood' vs. 'Twilight': Who's the Better Vampire Boyfriend? While sitting through an early screening of Twilight yesterday, I came to a not-so-stunning realization: teen girls are obsessed with vampires. The love story between Edward Cullen and Bella Swan had many young ladies in the audience squealing with delight, which is something I haven't experienced since I donned a disguise and crept into a showing of High School Musical 3. If you walk by a theater this weekend, there's a good chance you'll hear shrieks of ecstasy as Twilight melts the hearts of girls around the country. Read more...

Women are falling for Twilight's hunky vampire Angela Vicencio is happily married, but there’s another man.

He’s younger and hotter than her husband and his chiseled porcelain skin and chivalrous old-world manners make her heart race.

He’s also a vampire.

He’s Edward Cullen, the teenage protagonist of The Twilight saga, the four-book literary sensation that has sold more than 17 million copies worldwide.

Vicencio is among the throngs of adult women who’ve fallen hard for Twilight, and, along with their teen — mostly female — cohorts, are expected to fill theaters and send box-office receipts soaring when the film version debuts today. Read more...
Movie review: Dreamy undead in 'Twilight' Twilight: Romantic horror drama. Starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Billy Burke. Directed by Catherine Hardwicke. (PG-13. 122 minutes. At Bay Area theaters. To see complete movie listings and show times, and to buy tickets for select theaters, go to sfgate.com/movies.)
"Twilight" will probably be a huge disappointment to those expecting a horror film, a lot of good special effects, a kinky, sexual vampire picture or any combination of the above. More time during this movie is spent talking about going to the prom than drinking human blood. The climactic battle takes place in a ballet studio. Read more...

Casting for vampire movie 'Twilight' may disappoint book purists
As the credits came up at a recent screening of "Twilight," I heard a deep sigh to my right. It was my 15-year-old date, Libby. "I had such high expectations," she mumbled.

And that's a problem director Catherine Hardwicke is likely to encounter with girls all over America (and beyond): Stephenie Meyer's young adult novel is so beloved, it's much easier to see what went wrong with Hardwicke's adaptation than what she got right. Read more...

Twilight Talk for November 19

Shrieking masses descend on L.A. for the 'Twilight' premiere There were hundreds of people lining the Los Angeles streets screaming and chanting. There were homemade signs, punny slogans, and custom T-shirts. Attendees declared whose team they were on. There were moms and daughters, men and women, couples and singles. There were even a few people so overcome by emotion that tears were shed. They stood for hours, some for days, to make sure their opinions were seen and heard despite the harsh, ashy air quality caused by the numerous nearby wildfires. Interview with the Vampire and his girlfriend The success of Twilight as a film will depend on young stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, who will need to connect with fans of Stephenie Meyer's novel about teen love and vampires at a rural Washington state high school. Read more...

Robert Pattinson: Single & looking for love He may have his arm around Kristen Stewart at every “Twilight” premiere event, and has been linked to a host of hot ladies over recent months, but Robert Pattinson is unattached, according to a new interview. Read more...

'Twilight' should please thirsty fans You can almost feel the anticipation in the air for “Twilight.” Fans have devoured the novels by Stephenie Meyer with a blood lust. They also have burned up the Internet with good and bad comments.

Now the speculation can end. The fans can see what director Catherine Hardwicke has done to their beloved book.

Stop worrying. Hardwicke’s is a very loyal big-screen version of the lengthy book. A few minor scenes have been deleted. A couple of sequences got condensed. But overall, the film unfolds the same way the pages turn.

That’s not necessarily a great thing. More on that later. Read more...

'Twilight' Countdown: Stephenie Meyer talks about the film's twist ending 3 days left…

When I spoke to “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer, she seemed in much better spirits than she had been in following the “Breaking Dawn” backlash and subsequent leaking of “Midnight Sun” online. (For the record, she says she won’t resume writing the book, her planned retelling of “Twilight” from Edward’s point of view, until the noise around it has died down. “I have to feel like I’m alone with it again,” she said.) Meyer Got Twilight Rules in Writing
As fans know, the vampires of Twilight have a different set of rules from the standard lore. When author Stephenie Meyer first sold the movie rights, she quickly found that Hollywood wasn't respecting the world she had created. "I actually sold the rights to a different company [first]," Meyer told ReelzChannel at this weekend's Twilight junket.
"I got a look at the script and, you know, objectively [it was] probably a decent vampire movie. [But] it had nothing at all to do with Twilight. That was kind of a horrifying experience. I had realized that they could do it wrong and it could go badly, but that they would do something that had nothing to do at all with the story was really shocking to me." Read more...

'Twilight' Countdown: What you didn't know about Robert Pattinson At Saturday's "Twilight" extravaganza -- otherwise known as a press junket -- I was able to glean a few more tidbits about Robert Pattinson. Cheers!

Asked what he misses most about his pre-fame life, Rob said he already misses getting to play his music live: "I used to love playing live at open mic nights. It'd be cathartic. I mean it was really key for me," he explained. Now that a few of his performances have been captured on YouTube, however, he's a lot less keen to take the stage. In fact, he's pretty sad about it. "I think, 'Wow, I just lost a huge chunk of my life.' " Read more...

For all Buffy’s efforts, vampires have been sinking their teeth ever deeper into Generation W’s pop culture. Vampire Edward Cullen Transforms Into Artist Salvador Dali Okay. I'm not sure if I can recover from seeing photos of everyone's favorite film vampire Edward Cullen (sigh) as painter Salvador Dali. The actor, Rob Pattinson, wears a little skinny mustache for which the surrealist artist was so famous for having. I did not need to see any of those photos. They may have just ruined the movie version of Edward for me!

Here's the deal: After the actor, formerly Cedric Diggory of Harry Potter fame, finished working on the movie version of Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight," he filmed a movie called "Little Ashes" about Dali's life and paintings. "Little Ashes" will be released in 2009.

Check out the photos from the movie if you dare. (Warning: You might not recover your ability to let Pattinson be Edward Cullen after seeing them.) Read this...
